Professional Experience

My Journey

2020 - 2022 • Algonquin College

UX Designer Team Lead

Directed and managed teams on client projects, executing web design, development, brand design, and UX design.

2021 • Esight Eyewear - Gentex

Lead Product Designer

Conducted clinical usability testing for R&D of new device, championed the Optical Character Recognition feature design for the head mounted device, improved onboarding flows, and reshaped companies design process to include users from the start and throughout the design process.

2022 • Office of the Auditor General of Canada

UX Designer & Researcher, Inclusive Design

Led UX research and redesign of org-wide onboarding product for accessibility; initiated training strategies and workshops, enhancing team collaboration and user-centric design.

2024 - 2025 • University of Amsterdam | Carleton University

Freelance UX Consultant & Guest Lecturer

Developing and delivering interactive lectures and workshops for 200+ Industrial Design and Human Factors students, focusing on UX research, accessibility, and public sector challenges.

Co-facilitated workshops with a PhD student from the University of Amsterdam, workshopping innovative design solutions for problematic public spaces in collaboration with activists, designers, artists, and heritage professionals; exploring the emotional and cultural impact of colonial heritage on Montreal’s urban public spaces. This work contributed to a forthcoming publication.

I'm Ginko

Named after the tree, pronounced with the "gee".

My Roots

I was born and raised in South Africa, now living in Canada, I bring a multi-cultural lens to everything I do. Born to parents who were anti-apartheid journalists, they ingrained the values of Ubuntu "I am because you are", social justice, and equity, values woven into my core.

I graduated in Interactive Media Design at Algonquin College, specializing in User Experience Design and web application development.
